Gandhi's glasses are sold at a staggering figure!

A pair of gold-plated spectacles belonging to Indian political leader Mahatma Gandhi have sold in Britain for £260,000 (about €288,000 or $340,000), the auction house said.

“We found them only four weeks ago in our letter box, left there by a gentleman to whose uncle Gandhi himself had given them. An outstanding result for an outstanding article! Thanks to all who bid“, wrote East Bristol Auctions on Instagram after selling the glasses.

"Gandhi gave the glasses to the salesman's uncle while working for British Petroleum in South Africa during the 1920s or 30s", the auction house said.

Auctioneer Andrew Stowe told Sky News earlier this month that the seller had told him: "If they're no good, just throw them away."

"When I told him they could be worth £15,000 he almost fell off his chair", said Andrew. / Adapted from AFP ABOUT labyrinth
